Welcome.  If you've browsed to this site, you presumably have some interest in the concept of Utopian Society.  There are of course many perspectives on this topic, and we'll be open to discussion on most points of view.

However, this website will have a specific overall purpose:  to design a Utopian City.

Our civilization is at a point in history where technology is advancing at a mind-boggling pace, and we now capabilities that could never have existed in the past.  Yet the forces of "social momentum" in many ways prevent us from optimization of most aspects of our lives.

We (in the collective sense) have devised immensely complex projects, but the enormity of transforming a civilization may well be centuries or more away.

However, in designing a society 'from scratch' with current and near-future science and technology it may be possible to create a reasonable version of a small scale 'utopian' city, aspects of which may even act as a proving ground for the rest of civilization.  Even if never implemented, the thought-exercise in the design of this city may prove of some benefit somewhere.

Consider this the beginnings of an Open Source Society.

The design of this website is also open to input.  Initially it will serve to host discussion threads plus authoritative papers and other writings.  As a starting point, we'll work with a basic premise that the ultimate goal is to design a city from scratch on some undetermined remote island, utilizing state of the art science and technology - but also concentrating on aspects of human social interaction to plan an 'enlightened' social structure.

If you would like to participate, you can submit (relevant) papers, writings or links to help get the ball rolling; or you can help with the design of the website itself.  Any other suggestions are of course welcome as well.

As a starting point, topics will be  divided into two main categories - physical infrastructure and social aspects, with each of those being broken into many sub-categories.  (Please click on each for the starting lists.)
